Yesterday eveningβs panic buying has prompted the Asian Vision Institute to re-issue a commentary this morning. Supermarkets across the capital were a chaotic scene last night as people stocked up on staples ahead of the lockdown.
βPanic buying is when vast amounts of people suddenly buy and stock up on household products because they are worried that something bad is going to happen,β its authors said.
The commentary, originally published on March 26, said that βthe intensity of peopleβs demand for any one particular good is causally affected by how much other people need it simultaneouslyβ.
The institute recommended three points to address the issue β a quota policy, guarantee scheme and active education.
