Study urges help for youths to engage in the digital economy

A research report titled “Developing Cambodia’s Digital Economy: Youth’s Perspective”, presented during the 7th Annual National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) Macroeconomic Conference showed little consensus regarding platforms of choice but familiarity with their economic application.

The study was compiled by associates of the Centre for Inclusive Digital Economy (CIDE), Chan Pirun and Nay Darlin, with support from Director of CIDE Chhem Siriwat.

The research involved a survey of 378 Phnom Penh youths in order to detail the current landscape, challenges and concerns of youths as consumers in Cambodia’s growing digital economy and  closely study trends in digital adoption.

The report said: “The youths who participated in the survey indicated that they are well-exposed to digital platforms, goods and services, but that frequency of usage or consumption varies significantly from one digital option to another. The collected data highlights that factors influencing their decision to use certain digital platforms, goods and services are mostly self-driven rather than being influenced by their peers, family members or firms’ marketing efforts.
